The use of the computer for Management Information Systems is a use additional to the traditional roles performed by these powerful machines. Many companies consider this new use as probably its most important ultimate function and billions of dollars are being spent in the United States of America on developments in this direction. However, this application is by no means simple and straightforward and to date concerns embarking on computerised Management Information Systems experience that they very much have to find their own way. In this article a number of basic considerations in developing such systems are discussed. These considerations do not apply to big firms only nor are they limited to particular types of undertaking.
